Has my iPad been hacked?
QMy Touch ID and passcode wouldn’t unlock my iPad until I connected it to my Mac. I then discovered that it had received 20 emails which weren’t addressed to me. Has someone hacked it?
AThe two most important questions are whether someone might have had physical access to your iPad, or whether someone has gained access to your Apple ID and iCloud account. If no one has had physical access and your Apple ID has two-factor authentication enabled, then it’s extremely unlikely that your iPad or account have been hacked.
Glitches can occur occasionally with Touch ID and passcodes. If those are working properly now, that should be reassuring.
Similarly, incoming messages which aren’t addressed to you are not uncommon and by no means sinister, but you should check your addresses are working correctly.
If you suspect that your Apple ID might have been compromised, sign into to its account page at appleid.apple.com/. Change your password there, using a strong one which can never be guessed. Check all your personal and security information, in particular your primary email address, and your security questions and their answers.
If you haven’t enabled two-factor authentication yet, this is the time to do so, as it should prevent anyone else from ever gaining access to your account even if they somehow manage to obtain your password. If you’re still having problems, or can’t get into your account, contact Apple Support as a matter of urgency. Apple provides additional information at bit.ly/mf343appleidcomp.
