Your Mac, another mac or iOS device,

TeamViewer As mentioned in last month’s VnC tutorial, although macOS does have built-in screen sharing and Remote Management tools, they are only designed to work between Macs.

Screen sharing can be a lifesaver if you need to connect and perform a bit of family tech support. So it’s a nuisance if you’re away from home and only have an iPhone or iPad to hand. Fortunately, TeamViewer is the answer to your screen-sharing prayers. Its main advantage is that it’s available for a number of new platforms including Android, iOS and Windows. Once it’s installed, you can connect to your Mac from virtually any device. The app also takes your security seriously. During setup you’ll be asked to create your own access password, which will be required along with a unique ID for other devices to control your Mac.

Set up and connect

As TeamViewer’s a third-party program, you’ll need to modify your macOS security settings as outlined in Step 2 of this guide. If you don’t see TeamViewer listed as an authorised program here, simply click the button and choose it from your list of installed apps.

In this guide, you’ll discover how to set up your credentials in TeamViewer, as well as how to connect to your Mac from another device.
