iOS 14: What we’re predicting

The next iOS update is expected at WWDC. Here’s what’s coming...

-

Although this year’s WWDC in June will be virtual, Apple looks set to announce the next iOS/iPadOS upgrade. The web is awash with rumours of what iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 might bring, here are just a few snippets.

One of the biggest changes is likely to be Clips – not Clips as in Apple’s existing iOS-centric video app, but Clips API. The aim is to enable you to view bits of content contained within an app without having to have that app installed on your device – being able to watch YouTube videos in Safari instead of the native YouTube app, for example. 9To5Mac claims to have found code in a preview build of iOS 14 that will enable you to do just that, although it looks like you’ll need a specific QR code.

iCloud Keychain is currently a pretty basic password manager, but the iOS 14 version could bring two-factor authentication (2FA) smarts and reused password warnings, giving you that extra bit of security.

It also looks like you’ll be able to do more with the Home app – from changing the colour of HomeKitcompatible smart lights to identifying faces that appear on your HomeKit Secure Video cameras.

?? ?? Expect lots of big announcements at WWDC in June – including the next big updates to iOS and iPadOS.
