MASTER SAFARI FOR iPAD

Find useful new features in the browser refresh

- Craig Grannell

IT WILL TAKE 10 minutes

YOU WILL LEARN How to access and use more than 12 new Safari features

YOU’LL NEED An iPad running iPadOS, and an internet connection

At a glance, Safari for iPad in iPadOS might not seem that different from Apple’s browser in iOS 12, but a lot has changed. The latest version is packed full of new features, a dozen of which we’ll explore in the walkthrough. The main underlying change, however, is that Safari for iPad is now effectively a desktop-grade browser.

What this means is that instead of taking the iPhone’s version of Safari and blowing it up for iPad, what you get on your tablet is now akin to the browsing experience on a Mac. So when you’re using the likes of Google Docs and WordPress, you’ll get full-fat versions rather than cut-down mobile equivalents.

Of course, there may be times when you want the mobile version of a site on your iPad – and that’s still possible. You simply tap the View menu button (AA), and then Request Mobile Website to do that. For the most part, though, you’ll be revelling in your iPad now offering you the grown-up version of the internet.
