Affinity Photo enables you to perform a wider range of adjustments than you can in Photos. For a one-off purchase, it provides similar functions to Photoshop without the ongoing subscription. As well as running standalone, Affinity Photo adds extra tools to Photos as extensions.

1 Access an extension

Water particles in the air can cause haze. The resulting flat midtone contrast makes it difficult to discern distant details. Click Edit, then click on the Extensions icon at the top. Choose Affinity Haze removal.

2 Reduce haze

The Affinity Haze removal extension will launch in Photos. Drag the Distance slider to reveal more background detail. Drag Strength to increase the midtone contrast. Slide the vertical bar to compare before with after.
