HOW TO Replace and remove areas

-

1 Load your image

Load an image into Luminar that features sky; it doesn’t matter if it’s a small or large area. On the right, click on the Creative tab, then the AI Sky Replacement tab that appears. Luminar will have identified the sky area.

2 Swap out the sky

Click on the Sky Selection menu and choose a new sky from the list of options. Luminar blends the new sky with your original one so you can try a few out to see which one suits your image best.

3 Go all the way

To completely replace the sky, click on the Advanced button and go to the Sky Local slider. Move this slider further to the right to gradually remove all of the original sky from the image and replace it completely.

4 Make further edits

You can control other aspects of the new sky. In the Advanced tab, use Sky Temperature and Exposure sliders to make further changes. This will also alter the lighting effects applied to the non-sky parts of the image.

5 Erase an object

Choose a picture with an object you’d like to remove. Ideally this should not overlap with other objects as this will make removal easier. Click on the Canvas tools button on the right of the screen, then the Erase button.

6 Select the object

Make sure the eraser is in Add mode, then go to the Size control and select a brush size roughly the size of the object you want to remove. Paint over the object, being careful not to go too far outside its boundaries.

7 Perform the removal

Press Done and Luminar does its calculations and removes the object, sampling in appropriate background to replace it. If it has not worked as well as you’d like, use Edit > Undo and try again with a different brush size.

8 Remove more objects

Repeat the process to remove any further objects if required. It works best on objects that are surrounded by areas of the same colour and texture, so a little patience may be required for more complex object removals.
