HOW TO Create and organise tasks
1 Add a new task
Creating a task is simple. Click the ‘+’ icon, then start by typing ‘Task’, ‘Todo’, ‘Reminder’ or even å+ç. This switches from an event to a task. Alternatively, click the slider on the right of the new event window.
2 Set a date
Fortunately, Fantastical accepts natural language input. To add a date and time to your reminder, just type ‘Sat 3pm’ or ‘Next Monday evening’ and the app will understand what you want and schedule it accordingly.
3 Pick a task list
Your default task list is set in Fantastical’s settings. To change the list the task appears on, type a forward slash (‘/’) when adding it, then pick an option from the resulting list. You can start typing to narrow down the results.
4 Add a task on iOS
On iOS, tap the calendar icon (top left corner), then tap Tasks. Tap New Task, then start typing. The same shortcuts work on iOS as on Mac, so you can use natural language, type a ‘/’ to select a task list, and more.
5 Destination reminders
Back on Mac, click a task, then tick the ‘At a location’ checkbox. Click Add Location and start typing a destination; the app will suggest locations. Select one then click Arriving to be alerted of your reminder when you arrive.
6 New Calendar Set…
Fantastical uses Calendar Sets to organise tasks and calendars. Click Fantastical > Preferences, then click the Calendars tab. Create a new Calendar Set in the left-hand column and give it a name.
7 Fill with lists
In the main window of the app’s Preferences pane, you’ll see all the calendars and reminders lists you’ve loaded into Fantastical. Tick as many as you want to see in the app when this Calendar Set is active.
8 Change the default list
If you find yourself using one task list more than others, you can make it the default list. Go to Fantastical > Preferences and click the Calendars tab. Under ‘Default task list’, choose a new option.
