HOW TO Patch your Mac to support Sidecar
1 Get FreeSidecar
To get started, browse to bit.ly/ unlocksidecar and click ‘Download the latest version’ to save the free-sidecar.zip to your Mac. If you’re using Safari, you’ll find that the free-sidecar app should be automatically extracted.
2 Free Sidecar access
Double-click ‘free-sidecar’ – you’ll receive a warning. Click OK, then open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General tab. You should see the warning about free-sidecar – click Open Anyway followed by Open.
3 Backup SidecarCore
Open Applications > Utilities > Terminal alongside Free Sidecar. Click inside the first code block (‘cp /System…’) to select, then copy and paste it into the Terminal window. Press ®. Repeat for the second code block.
4 Open the model list
Now click Select SidecarCore. Navigate to your Downloads folder where you should find a SidecarCore file. Select this and click Open. A list of compatible iPad and Mac models will then appear beneath this.
5 Select your models
Click on a model to select it – you can enable as many as you like, but we recommend sticking to just your Mac model and (if applicable) your iPad model. The file is immediately patched, ready for applying.
6 Final steps
After disabling System Integrity Protection (see the main text), reopen Free Sidecar, scroll down and copy and paste the last three blocks of code to apply the patch. Finish by re-enabling System Integrity Protection.
