EXPLAINED… the Home screen

-

1 Tap an app

To open any app on iOS, simply tap its icon. Touch and hold an app icon to ‘peek’ at additional options – you’ll know you’ve done it right when you feel the screen ‘pop’, thanks to Haptic Touch – see tip 7 below.

2

Move an app

You can use the ‘peek and pop’ technique above to rearrange the apps on your iPhone’s screen. Tap Edit Home Screen when that option appears, then tap and drag an app to its new position.

3

Delete an app

To remove an app, use ‘peek and pop’ again, only this time select ‘Delete App’ from the menu that appears. Some default apps, like App Store and Wallet, cannot be deleted, only moved.

4

Multiscreen

You can download as many apps as your iPhone’s storage will allow, arranged over up to 15 different Home screens. To move between Home screens, simply swipe left or right.

5

Use a folder

An easier way to manage apps is to place them in folders on a Home screen. To do that, tap and drag an app icon over the top of another – iOS will create a folder containing both for you.

6

Use the Dock

The Dock is the shaded area at the bottom of the Home screen that acts as a repository for your most commonly used apps. It includes Phone, Messages, Safari and Music by default, but you can swap these out for other apps using the Edit Home Screen option from tip 2.

07 Haptic Touch

Introduced on the iPhone XR in 2018, Haptic Touch replaces the 3D Touch system found on older iPhones. It gives you haptic feedback whenever you touch and hold an app icon, menu option or other features. You can adjust the level of Haptic Touch feedback when you first set up your iPhone. Further options are available in the Settings app under Accessibility > Physical
