Qi wireless charging – with style

-

£44.95 FROM Moshi, moshi.com FEATURES Qi wireless charging (up to 15W), USB-C port (1m USB-C cable included), non-slip silicone surface ring and base; supports cases up to 5mm thick

While the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro sport Apple’s MagSafe tech, every iPhone since the iPhone 8 has supported wireless charging. You just place your iPhone on a Qi-compatible pad and, well, wait… sometimes for rather a long time. While wireless charging isn’t necessarily quick, it is convenient – you don’t have to rummage around for a Lightning cable, or worry about sticking said connector into a rapidly fluff-filling port, you just plop your iPhone down and go. Moshi’s already impressed us with its £164 Symbus Q charger (MF364), but the Otto Q is a cheaper and simpler proposition. It shares its sibling’s Nordic Grey finish, with a silicone ring on top to keep your phone in place, and has silicone on its underside to keep it planted on your desk. It comes with a one-metre USB-C to USB-C cable, but no charging plug, so you’ll need to supply your own.

Moshi says the Otto Q supports cases up to 5mm thick and we had no issues charging our iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 12. However, while it offers up 15W of wireless power, the maximum an iPhone can handle is 7.5W unless it’s attached to a MagSafe charger. And the Otto Q isn’t one of them, which is a shame.

Still, it works well enough, and the Otto Q feels high quality and substantial, thanks in part to its 128g weight. There’s even a white LED that ‘breathes’ when your iPhone is charging correctly. Rob Mead-Green
