HOW TO Quickly update your apps

-

1 Menu bar icon

MacUpdater uses a menu bar icon for quick access. Click it, then click Quick Select to highlight apps to be updated. Alternatively, you can ç-click multiple apps at once. Click the Update Selected option to get started.

2 Open the app

Click the Refresh button to make MacUpdater check for pending updates again. The gear button in the top-right corner opens MacUpdater’s settings, while the Open button launches the main window of the app.

3 The main update list

The app’s main window shows a list of apps to be updated. Use the dropdown list to filter which apps are shown: You can show all apps, hide Mac App Store apps, hide all un-updateable apps, or set some custom rules.

4 Custom rules

Choosing the custom rule option opens a window with many customisable options. You can hide 32-bit apps, hide Intel-only apps, hide audio plug-ins, hide screen savers, and much more, giving you tons of control.

5 The Discover tab

In the top-left is the Discover tab, which helps you find new apps to install. You can browse by app categories, by popular apps, or see recently updated ones. You can also use the search box to find a specific app.

6 General Settings

Click Settings to find MacUpdater’s options. The General Settings tab lets you choose whether the app launches at login, where the app icon is displayed, what double-clicking an app in MacUpdater does, and more.

7 Scanning

This section determines how often MacUpdater will scan for app updates, when scans should be skipped, and where on your Mac it will look for apps to update. You can even decide whether the scan speed is throttled.

8 Updating

This section lets you make backups of your apps and enable security features while updating. You can also install the Privileged Install Helper Tool, which updates apps without needing your password every time.

9 Ignores

The Ignores tab lets you specify apps or updates that MacUpdater should ignore. MacUpdater can send you reminders to clear out this list periodically, and it can also automatically remove outdated ignore list entries.
