If you’re looking for a simple, no-fuss VPN then TunnelBear should appeal. Its cutesy bear highlights its beginnerfriendly appeal, but don’t worry – it’s still both private and secure, backed up by a thorough privacy policy and several detailed independent security audits.

In terms of features, it’s a little light compared to others, and only supports the OpenVPN protocol, which is reflected in its performance, which was at the bottom end of those tested. It operates a relatively small number of servers – just 2,600 spread across 41 territories.

TunnelBear does have one clever feature not found elsewhere – GhostBear is an option to try to hide the fact you’re using a VPN but is only recommended if your ISP blocks your VPN connection because it’ll slow things down even further.
