IT WILL TAKE

YOU WILL LEARN How to selectively adjust tones, reveal detail and mimic a retro look

YOU’LL NEED Camera+ Studio, macOS 11.1 or later

Thanks to our iPhone camera app’s Smart HDR feature, we can capture great photos even in contrasting lighting conditions (such as shooting a backlit subject). However, some shots will still benefit from a few post-production tweaks in an app like Camera+ Studio to reveal more colour and detail.

Although Camera+ Studio is a free app, you do need to pay to use extra tools such as the powerful Clarity Pro and Curves panels. These high-end tools help give you more control over editing your photo’s colours and tones.

We’ll show you how to use Camera+ Studio’s tools to make selective tonal adjustments and reveal underexposed shadow detail (without blowing out correctly exposed highlights). We’ll also sharpen a shot to reveal more detail (and colour) before getting creative by giving a modern digital photo a retro print look, complete with analogue artefacts such as vignetted edges and faded, tinted colours.
