How to get started using Notes

Whether you want to jot down a bar order or store details for a project at work, Notes has you covered

-

Everything you create in Notes, whether it’s on the Mac, iPhone or iPad is by default, synced with iCloud and available on all your devices. Sharing and collaborating are at the heart of how Notes is designed to work. However, you can choose to keep some notes only on your Mac, and not sync them. We’ll show you how to do that here, as well as how to create and format notes, scan documents and collaborate on Notes with friends and colleagues. Notes also allows you to create tables, add links, make checklists and secure notes with a password. And thanks to Share Sheets, you can add content to notes from any app that supports them, either by creating a new note for the content you want to add or appending it to an existing note.

One of our favourite features is the

Gallery view, which enables you to see notes as thumbnails, rather than as a list of titles. So, if, for example, you have a folder full of notes created from websites in Safari, switching to Gallery view will display thumbnails of the webpages.
