Apple mixed-reality headset
Analysts say it’s mirroring the Apple Watch before its launch in 2014
Another Apple product that has long been doing the rounds of the rumour mill is a mixed-reality headset. According to a report from analysts at Morgan Stanley, there are clues that the launch of this device is rapidly approaching.
That’s because the headset’s development is closely mirroring that of the Apple Watch before its own 2014 reveal. Before the Apple Watch was unveiled to the world, there was an uptick of patents relating to its underlying technologies, including those covering sensors and step detection, iPhone connectivity, lowpower Bluetooth, and more.
Similarly, Apple has published a spate of headsetrelated patents in recent months, such as those for the hardware, interface, and input mechanisms of the upcoming device. The headset is widely expected to blend virtual reality and augmented reality, with other reports stating it will be more lightweight than rival headsets. While a report from news outlet The Information claimed the price would be around $3,000, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo later countered that by stating his belief the cost would be closer to $1,000. According to Kuo, Apple is aiming for a late 2022 or early 2023 launch date.
