HOW TO Work on Pages documents on iOS
1 See your stuff
When you open Pages, it’ll show you recently opened documents (if you’ve opened any, of course). If you tap the Grid icon at the top right you can change how this list is ordered and organise documents into groups.
2 Add or open
To open an existing document, simply tap it. To create a new document, tap the ‘+’ icon in the top-right corner. You’ll now see two options: ‘Choose a Template’ or Start Writing. Start Writing creates a blank document.
3 Decide on design
The range of templates is really impressive, and they’re all very well designed: these are templates you can use without having to make massive changes to their design if you don’t want to. Tap the one you want to use.
4 Open it up
Let’s just take a moment to point out that we’re opening a brochure on a telephone. Aren’t Apple devices brilliant? It’s surprisingly easy to work with big documents like this: just double-tap a section to zoom in.
7 Insert an image
When you’re working inside a document, the ‘+’ icon at the top of the screen enables you to insert something. In this screenshot we’ve tapped the Photo tab, and as you can see we can insert all kinds of images.
10 Share with others
Pages is designed for collaboration with others, who – if you want them to – can comment on or edit your document. To share, tap the icon that looks like a person, then choose how you want to send the share invite.
5 Edit the text
Apple’s templates come with placeholder text. Simply select the text you want to replace, tap it, then tap Delete or start typing. You’ll see there are some basic formatting controls above the on-screen keyboard.
8 Tap the charts
Just because you don’t have your MacBook handy doesn’t mean you can’t whip up an impressive report with eyecatching charts: just tap the Charts tab and choose between 2D, 3D and Interactive charts.
11 Set Sharing options
Tap Share Options and you’ll see this screen, which enables you to change three settings: who can access your document, whether they’re allowed to make any changes, and whether those people can share it with others.
6 Fix the format
For even more formatting options, tap on the paintbrush icon at the top of the screen. This brings up the tabbed Format palette, which you can use to change all kinds of things including fonts, sizes, line spacing, indents and so on.
9 Use Screen View
When you open a document on your iPhone, you can tap the three dots icon (…) and then select Screen View to reformat it without changing the underlying document. This simplifies the design to make it easier to read and edit.
12 Use Presenter Mode
Are you still reading things off Notes? Use Pages instead: if you go into a normal document such as a note or letter, tap the Options icon and then Presenter Mode to see the document in big, scrollable text.
