AirPlay and Siri

-

You don’t need to tap or click to make AirPlay work across your devices - let Siri do the heavy lifting for you. Here’s how…

It couldn’t be easier to control AirPlay with Siri. Simply say “Hey Siri,” or press the Siri button on your device, and tell it what you want it to do – so, for example, you might say “Hey Siri, play this video on the living room TV” or “Hey Siri, play my happy playlist on the kitchen Sonos”.

Obviously, before you can actually do that, it’s important to actually have a living room or kitchen specified in the Home app with the appropriate device assigned to it and with the appropriate name attached.

With devices such as the HomePod mini, which are HomeKit compatible, they should appear automatically in the Home app so you can assign them to a room and give them a name. But not all AirPlay devices are HomeKit certified, and if they aren’t then they can’t be controlled via Home. For example, if you have a Samsung TV that has AirPlay but not HomeKit, while you can stream to it from your Apple devices, you can’t control it directly via Siri; you have to control playback on the device you’re streaming from instead.
