Huawei MateView

A 4.5k+ HDR display with connectivity options

-

£599 FROM huawei.com/uk FEATURES 28.2-inch, 3840x2560 pixels, 3:2 aspect ratio, 60Hz refresh rate, USB-C (135W)

The MateView is a ‘slightly more than 4K’ display. The monitor measures 28.2 inches with an impressive 94% screen-to-body ratio, thanks to very small bezels. The 3840x 2560 resolution is down to its 3:2 aspect ratio, rather than the 16:9 we are more commonly used to. A wider screen means more windows side by side; a taller one means more content per window in many cases. Its built-in stand allows a decent height and angle adjustment.

The monitor is supplied with a 135W USB-C power supply and has a second USB-C port for connection to your laptop or tablet. This provides up to 65W of charging power, as well as carrying display signals and data. The unit also houses two additional USB-A ports, one HDMI 2.0, a Mini DisplayPort, and a combined headset and microphone socket. Two microphones and two decent quality 5W speakers are built in. The special touch bar under the bottom edge for changing settings is a little fiddly to use.

The display is gorgeous, its colours deep and rich. HDR400 technology and 500 nits of brightness make it an excellent screen for creative work, as well as gaming. Huawei has also included wireless mirroring capabilities – place your phone near the screen to automatically mirror it, or ‘project’ wirelessly from a laptop. These are limited to specific Huawei phones and laptops, so us Apple fans have to stick to the wired options, but there is a decent selection. Hollin Jones
