Apple working on two ‘MR’ headsets
Second-generation model is already in the works, claims leak
These days, it’s an open secret that Apple is working on a mixed reality headset that blends virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Now, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has conveyed fresh details on the features he believes will be in the device. His report alleges that the headset will weigh around 300g to 400g. That’s up from a previous report from Kuo in March 2021, where he stated it could weigh 150g, but is still less than most rival devices.
Kuo followed this up with a second report claiming the headset will offer advanced gesture control, object detection, eye tracking, voice control, and more. Past reports from Kuo and other sources have stated the headset will contain an 8K display for each eye and will cost at least $1,000. Kuo’s analysis also contained the intriguing titbit that Apple is already working on a second-generation headset that will be significantly lighter than its first iteration and will come with a new design, improved battery system, and faster processor.
This is in addition to the rumoured AR glasses Apple is said to be working on. Put together, this all suggests Apple is investing heavily into mixed reality and could be positioning it as the company’s next big thing.
