Zooming into a Keynote slide Q

As a business presentation tool, Keynote works well for me. But I’m struggling to achieve a particular effect. How can I get Keynote to show slides which zoom into a high resolution image, then split the screen to compare one image with another?

A

Both of these are effects which are built into Keynote, and easily applied to your presentations. To zoom into a high resolution image, first add a new slide suitable for the image and drop the image onto that slide. Adjust that to form the starting position and zoom level. If you were then to use the Animate tool to add an effect, it would form a transition to the whole slide. To apply a zoom effect to the image itself, select the image first, then the Animate tool at the top of the sidebar, and click on Action. Click ‘Add an Effect’ and select Scale from the effects listed in the pop-up menu.

Set the Scale controls to zoom in to the correct level of magnification, add the action and try it out. To adjust those settings, simply select the image and Animate > Action will show you those Scale controls again. You can also add a sequence of Action Build Effects, for instance to zoom in and then move the full-scale image across into position ready for the split-screen images to follow.

To add the split-screen slide, add a new slide and place the two images you want there. Use a Transition Effect such as a Dissolve on the slide to move smoothly from the zoomedin image in the previous slide.
