1 Don’t let the name confuse you: Asustor isn’t about PCs, but specialises in NAS and security systems. The Drivestor 2 Pro is aimed at families and small home offices, and is unique here in using a quad-core ARM processor, and having only 2GB of memory. It delivers some of the best performance at around 100MB/sec when transferring larger files, and it backs up at a decent speed.

Configuration is simple, and offers enhanced macOS compatibility with Samba VFS modules. For those

looking beyond backup and file sharing it has an extensive library of apps, and hardware support for transcoding and streaming 10-bit 4K H.265 video, which could make it ideal as a media server.

Although the cheapest of the systems tested, build quality is excellent. Its three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports also make it expandable.
