All-new Studio Display

5K display with Centre Stage and Spatial Audio

-

Going hand-in hand with the new Mac Studio, the Studio Display is a powerhouse product in its own right. Powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, its edge-to-edge Retina display offers 5K resolution at 5120x2880 pixels and support for the P3 colour gamut, plus is capable of displaying up to 1 billion colours.

While it’s chiefly aimed at creative pros who might baulk at the cost of Apple’s £4,599 Pro Display XDR, it’s no less feature packed, coming with three USB-C ports on its rear, plus a Thunderbolt 3 port with 96W Power Delivery, enabling you to send audio and video to the display from a MacBook while charging its battery at the same time.

As well as being powered by the A13 Bionic (the same chip used in the iPhone 11, 2nd gen iPhone SE and 9th gen iPad), it also runs iOS and brings several macOS, iOS and iPadOS features to the party, including support for Centre Stage via its built-in 12MP Ultra Wide 1080p camera, and support for Spatial Audio thanks to the six-speaker audio system built into the bottom of the display. While the standard Studio Display comes with a tilt-adjustable aluminium stand at £1,449, you can also opt for a VESA mount instead for the same asking price, or a height-and-tilt adjustable stand at £1,749. While the tilt-adjustable stand enables you to tilt the Studio Display backwards and forwards between -5 and +25 degrees, the height-and-tilt adjustable stand also enables you to raise or lower it by up to 10.4cm. Controversially, though, your choice of stand is fixed at buying time – you can’t swap one stand for another later as they’re not interchangeable.

Extra texture

Like the Pro Display XDR, the Studio Display is also available with optional nano-texture glass. While the standard display has a non-reflective coating, nano-texture glass reduces reflections even further, but at a £250 premium.
