What else happened at MWC? >
Interestingly, smartphones did not dominate MWC 2022 in the way you might have expected. There was an increasing focus on tablets, and, notably, laptops at the show. Samsung may not have shown off any new phones at MWC, but it did unveil the Galaxy Book2 Pro and Book2 Pro 360 laptops, which run on the latest Intel chips. More notable is the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s Gen 1. This features the new Snapdragon PC system-on-a-chip, which is based on ARM, like Apple silicon is. The laptop is the first time such a chip will be combined with Windows 11 – how will it hold up compared to Apple’s M1 series?
Another Apple challenger launched at MWC is Huawei’s MateStation X. It’s an all-in-one desktop device. It has no dedicated GPU but does have an AMD mobile chip and looks set to compete with the 24-inch iMac. Huawei also launched a new tablet, the MateBook E, and there was also a new Kindle device and an ereader from reMarkable too.
