And then there’s the other VR product… The MR headset we’ve focused on here is likely to arrive towards the end of 2022 but, looking further ahead, it’s also thought that Apple is developing a set of Apple Glasses as well. The Apple Glasses are expected to be more like the ill-fated Google Glass, which had a brief moment of fame – or infamy – almost a decade ago (and resulted in the wearers being dubbed ‘Glassholes’).
The Apple Glasses will be more like a conventional pair of sunglasses or reading glasses, allowing you to see through the lenses, and also to retain full peripheral vision so that you can still see what’s going on around you. However, the lenses will also be able to display computer graphics and other information, in order to create an ‘augmented reality’ that enhances the world you can see around you. But shrinking a full-size headset down to the size of a small set of glasses is no easy task, and it’s unlikely that the Apple Glasses will be launched before 2025 or even later.
