HOW TO Conquer common issues
1 Straighten horizons
To counteract a tilted horizon, click on the Crop button at the top. Click and drag near the crop rotation dial at the right of the photo to rotate the shot. A grid will be shown to help you make the horizon look truly horizontal.
2 Clobber colour casts
If a shot is too cold (blue), click Adjust, open the White Balance panel and select the eyedropper tool. Click on an area that should be a more neutral grey. Photos will adjust the sampled cold blue area to create warmer colours.
3 Reveal missing tones
The Light panel enables you to make selective tonal adjustments to reveal detail lost in shadow. Here we need to brighten up the backlit subject’s underexposed face to reveal a little more colour and detail.
4 Remove sensor spots
If you shoot with a DSLR, dust can get onto the sensor when you change lenses. To remove a grey spot from a pic, open the Retouch tool, set the brush size, then click on the spot. It will automatically be replaced by adjacent pixels.
5 Sharpen soft shots
Most shots can benefit from the Sharpen tool to create punchier prints. Intensity increases sharpening strength; Edges adjusts the threshold of contrasting edges; and Falloff makes the overall effect softer or more severe.
