Reconnect to café network

- byGRAHAMFORREST

QMost days I browse on my iPad in my local coffee shop. Now, although it says it can see the network, it can’t seem to connect to it, but my iPhone still works fine. How can I reconnect it?

AOne quick and simple step to try is to turn Airplane mode on, leave it for 15 seconds or so, then turn it off again.

If that doesn’t help, open Settings and tap Wi-Fi. Identify the network connection it should be using and tap the Info button to show its current settings. Ensure Auto-Join is enabled, and that the address settings below look correct. If you’re in any doubt, ensure you’ve got any password required to join that network and tap Forget This Network at the top. You can then set it up again in the main Wi-Fi settings.

Resetting all the iPad’s network settings is more disruptive, as that will also force it to create new ones for all the other network connections it requires. To do that, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. You can also check signal strength and dropouts if you download Apple’s free AirPort Utility app. Once it’s installed, tap Settings > AirPort Utility and enable its Wi-Fi Scanner. Then open the app and tap Wi-Fi Scan at the top right, using Scan to see all the available networks. This can help you identify the best network to use, and whether there’s a problem with dropouts. Once you’ve finished, remember to turn the scanner off again in Settings.

?? ?? If toggling Airplane mode doesn’t help, ensure you’ve got the password, tap Forget This Network, and set it up again.
