THE WINNER Things 3

It checks all the boxes for syncing and integrating with macOS, and allows you to focus on important tasks

Things 3 checks all the boxes when it comes to playing nicely with

macOS. It pulls in Reminders and Calendar events and it has extensions, a Today widget, and Shortcuts actions. It makes it easy to see what you need to do today, while enabling you to share tasks (albeit not as elegantly as Microsoft To Do). It seems expensive, partly because it charges separately for iPhone and iPad apps, but when you add up the prices of the other apps here that charge a subscription for the full feature set, Things 3 compares very favourably.

Todoist is a great option if you need to work on non-Apple devices or work with others who do. And if price is an issue, GoodTask could be the one for you because it provides great features and we really like its Board view.

We found that 2Do is great for working with hundreds of different tasks, while OmniFocus works well for those invested in the GTD method. And finally, if you want a free task manager that’s zippy and allows you to delegate, Microsoft To Do will more than cover the bases.
