Health and fitness
The Apple Watch is your personal trainer and more
Health and fitness is already a central tenet of the Apple Watch, and this is only going to increase with watchOS 9. To start, the Workout app is getting an overhaul. The Digital Crown will be able to rotate between different Workout Views. Heart Rate Zones are being introduced to help monitor how intense a workout is. Custom workouts are being made available too.
Runners using an Apple Watch will be able to add new metrics such as Stride Length, Ground Contact Time, and Vertical Oscillation in their Workout Views. Swimming monitoring has also been updated, as have Fitness+ workouts.
On the health side, the new Medications app will be available on the Apple Watch as well as on iPhone. This means your Apple Watch will alert you when it is time to take your medication or if there are any potential issues with multiple prescriptions. watchOS 9 will also to try to provide you with more detailed insights into your sleep patterns by recording passages of REM, Core and deep sleep.
The Apple Watch’s groundbreaking heartmonitoring functionality is going to be expanded but will remain available for US users only for the foreseeable.
