3 Search for a definition

Need to check the dictionary? Fire up Spotlight and start typing the word. When you see it appear with a speech bubble icon next to it, click on it to see the definition. Click it again to see it in the macOS Dictionary app.

5 Find a movie on IMDb

If you start typing the name of a movie in Spotlight, it will try to find matches for the term on your Mac and on the web. However, if you preface the name of the movie with ‘IMDb’ it will list titles from there near the top.

7 Find your iPhone

Invoke Siri by clicking its icon in the menu bar, Touch Bar or Dock, or say “Hey Siri” if your Mac supports it. Say “Find my iPhone”. If you have the Find My app set up, your iPhone will sound an alert and Siri will confirm.

4 Convert a currency

Call up Spotlight, type the amount and the original currency followed by the currency you want to convert to. You’ll see the result immediatel­y in the search box. Press ® to see the amount converted to more currencies.

6 Find a note

Siri can search within apps, though it doesn’t currently work well with Photos, and Finder support is broken in Monterey. Say “Hey Siri” followed by “find my note” then the title of the note. Click on the note in Siri’s results.

8 Check the weather

Invoke Siri and say “What’s the weather in [location]?”. Siri will then list an hour-byhour forecast for the current day. If you add “tomorrow” to the request, you’ll see tomorrow’s general forecast.
