Power PC era
Created in the 1990s by the Apple/IBM/Motorola alliance (AIM), the PowerPC was a RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) chip, potentially much more efficient than Intel’s CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) architecture. PowerPC chips would regularly outperform Intel’s x86 ones, delivering better performance and efficiency. While Apple doesn’t use them any more, the descendants of the PowerPC are still doing great things – you’ll find them in the Mars rovers.
