HOW TO Find space hogs with DaisyDisk

-

1 Scan your system

DaisyDisk will display all of your available and connected drives including any external storage, and if you wish you can also add cloud storage services too. To analyse a drive, simply click on the Scan button to the right of it.

2 See your stuff

Rather than present you with a massive list of files and folders, DaisyDisk displays your storage usage graphically; the bigger the shape, the more spaces it’s taking up. For example, here the Users folder is the biggest thing on this Mac.

3 Explore more

If you click on one of the coloured areas, DaisyDisk will show you what it contains, so for example here we’ve clicked on space used by Time Machine that we don’t need to worry about – it clears automatically.

4 See what’s inside

One of DaisyDisk’s best features is helping you find things you’d forgotten about. Here we’ve clicked on the Application Support area to discover that there’s 4.3GB used by an app, WebEx, we thought we’d deleted.

5 Clear the clutter

To remove unwanted data, you drag it over the bottom left corner of the DaisyDisk window. This doesn’t delete it; it adds it to a queue, so you can check your selections before you get rid of anything permanently.

6 Pull the plug

When you’re happy with your selection, click on the Delete button at the bottom of the DaisyDisk window. This will give you a short countdown during which you can change your mind before it removes your selections.
