HOW TO Move your Music library

1 Find the music

Moving your Music library is similar to moving your Photos library, but this time the folder you’re looking for is – surprise! – the Music one. Look for the Music/ iTunes folder or Music/Music/Media if you didn’t have iTunes previously.

2 Drag and drop

Once again it’s just a matter of connecting your external storage and then dragging your iTunes or Music/ Media folder over the appropriate bit of the Finder sidebar. We’re using an old, slow SSD so this bit took a long time.

3 Change the location

In your Music app, go to Preferences > Files > Music Media folder location and click Change. Navigate to your music’s new location and click Open. If not already ticked, check Keep Music Media Folder organised and ‘Copy Files to…’.
