HOW TO Capture audio from your Mac

-

1 Open a Session

On startup, Audio Hijack shows you a list of session templates. Click Application Audio to open it. You will be able to change the application you want to capture in the next step. Next you will see the Session window.

2 Choose a source app

Click on the Application block and you can choose from any audio-capable app. There’s a shortcut to choose from any app currently running. To add a second app you can drag a new Application block from the Sources tab.

3 Add more blocks

New sources will be automatically routed through your recorder but you can drag a new Recorder block in too, and make separate quality settings. Drag the blocks and watch the routing arrows auto-adjust themselves.

4 Start the recording

Click the Run button and Audio Hijack opens all the apps you have requested to be recorded. As soon as an audio signal is detected it will start recording files to the locations shown in the blocks’ preferences.

5 Digitise analogue media

Imagine you’re recording from vinyl or cassette. ≈-click the App block and select Delete. Drag an Input Device block in its place and select your Mac’s audio input. If required, go to Effects and drop in a Declick effect.

6 Step up the quality

Click Run to start a recording. To tweak settings, click on the Recorder block. A 256kbps MP3 is fine for web streams, but for digitising vinyl you may want to step up to higher-quality Apple Lossless or AIFF formats.
