HOW TO Create disk image in Disk Utility
1 Create the image
In Disk Utility, click File > New Image > Blank Image. Type a filename for the image and choose where to save it. Type a name for the image – this is the name that is used when the image is opened. Set a capacity and choose a format.
2 Select the format
Select the format you want to use for the image, then choose whether to encrypt it or not, and select a Partition Map. Next, select an image format – for a DMG image, use ‘read/write disk image’. Click Save to save the image.
3 Create from a folder
To add files to the image we just created, drag and drop in the Finder. To replicate a folder, or a complete volume choose File > New Image > ‘Image from Folder’ or select a volume and New Image > ‘Image from [selected volume]’.
