Halide Mark II

Free; Pro £2.49/month FROM halide.cam

-

3 Halide provides a range of shooting options from automatic to full manual. There’s a clever swipe-to-change for ISO and shutter speed on the main screen, plus manual focusing with loupe and focus peaking.

Although video shooting is not supported its stills capabilities are strong, with advanced Raw and ProRAW support where your iPhone allows it. There’s also a shooting mode called Coverage that takes two shots, one processed through Apple’s image pipeline and one untouched Raw file that you can edit yourself. There’s an ‘instant’ enhance button

for this, though no other built-in editing tools.

There’s extensive depth map support including export, an Apple Watch app, powerful histograms and colour zebra patterns, custom white balance and extensive metadata viewing. Halide is also native to the iPad, which has the same features but arranged to take advantage of a larger screen. It’s a very solid manual camera app.
