Customise Monterey’s menu bar

-

Take Control 1

The Control Centre options on your Monterey menu bar provide fast access to key system features. If you want any of them in the menu bar itself, hold ⌘ and drag them from the Control Centre on to the menu bar. Reorder your apps 2

You can reorder the menu bar, again by holding down ⌘ and dragging the icon you want to move. If you drag an icon from your Mac’s menu bar towards your Desktop it’ll remove that icon permanently rather than just quit the app. Pick your settings 3

Open up System Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar and you can control what appears in Control Centre. For example, if you click on Battery you’ll see three options: Show in Menu Bar, Show in Control Centre, and Show Percentage.

See what you’ve got 4

If you look at the side panel of the Dock & Menu Bar preference pane you’ll see that it tells you where each module appears. Some items can’t be changed, so for example AirDrop and Bluetooth are always in Control Centre.

Adjust menu items 5 Similarly, some features such as the Siri, Spotlight and Time Machine can only appear in the menu bar, not Control Centre. But if you don’t want to see them you can turn them off by unchecking Show in Menu Bar.
