Q

How can I get my iPad Pro to work with Universal Control on my Mac?

A

Both need to be running compatible versions of macOS (12.4 or later) or iPadOS (15.4 or later), and signed into the same iCloud account and Apple ID with two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Next, look at their connections. Wireless needs to have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi active with Handoff enabled; on your iPad the latter is in Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff, and on your Mac in the checkbox at the foot of the System Prefs > General pane. If your iPad is connected by USB instead, it must trust that Mac.

Universal Control won’t currently work when a Mac is sharing its internet connection, or an iPad is sharing its mobile connection. While it can be reliable with Sidecar active, some find they clash and that needs to be disabled. Once those are lined up, check your Mac and iPad to see if either has a software update to install. Then shut them down, start the Mac up, and once you’ve logged in, start your iPad up, position the iPad near the Mac, to one side of its display. With its mouse or trackpad, move its pointer to the adjacent edge of the display and try pushing it across to the iPad a few times.

You can also try toggling Cursor and Keyboard off and on again in Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff, and turning Bluetooth or Wi-Fi off and on.
