HOW TO Get started with Books
1 Browse the store
In the Books app on iPad, tap Book Store at the bottom of the screen. Swipe left to browse the sections, and up to see different categories. On the Mac, click Book Store in the sidebar, then click the right arrow or scroll down.
2 Find audiobooks
Audiobooks have their own section in the Books app for Mac and iPad. On iPad, tap Audiobooks at the bottom of the screen. On the Mac, click Audiobook Store in the sidebar. Browse audiobooks as you would do for regular books.
3 Take a closer look
When you find a book that interests you, tap or click on it. Swipe up or scroll down to read more about it, including reviews. If it appeals to you, tap or click ‘Want to Read’ to add it to Reading Now, or Sample to download a sample.
4 Download a book
If you decide to buy a book, tap or click Buy and confirm the purchase as you would an app from the App Store. If the book is free, tap or click Get to add it to your library. Books added to your library are synced across devices.
5 Get back to browsing
If, having read a summary or review, you decide not to buy or add a book to your library, tap or click the ‘X’ at the top of its window to return to the main browsing screen. You can also tap or click anywhere outside the book’s window.
6 Add a PDF on iPad
On iPad, locate the PDF you want to add in the Files app and tap it to open. Tap the Share button and choose Books from the list of apps. If Books is not there, tap ‘…’ and choose it from the list. It will now open in the Books app.
7 Add a PDF on the Mac
Locate the PDF in the Finder and ≈-click it. Choose Share from the menu, then Books. If Books isn’t available, click ‘…’ to go to the Extensions menu. Check the box next to ‘Add to Books’ to add that to the menu.
8 Create a Collection
On iPad, tap Library then Collections. Tap New Collection. On the Mac, click New Collection in the sidebar. Type a name for the collection and tap or press ®. It will appear in the sidebar and sync with all your devices.
9 Add to a Collection
On iPad, find the book you want to add in your Library. Tap the ‘…’ underneath its cover and choose ‘Add to Collection’, then tap the Collection name. It’s the same on the Mac, so again click ‘…’ and the Collection name.
