HOW TO Get info with Visual Look Up
1 Look up landmarks on iOS
Find a photo in your Library with a landmark you want to look up, then tap it. If there is Visual Look Up information available, you’ll see an ‘i’ with a star in the toolbar. Tap it, then tap the map icon or tap Look Up – Landmark.
2 Look up landmarks on Mac
In Photos, double-click a photo to open it. Click the ‘i’ with a star next to it in the toolbar. Click the map icon at the bottom right of the image, then scroll through the window to explore the available information and links.
3 Explore on Mac
As an alternative to clicking the map icon, if there is an Explore button at the bottom of the image after you click ‘i’, then click that. You will now see a thumbnail of the image on a map showing its location, along with its address.
4 See nearby photos on Mac
After clicking Explore, as well as a map and address, you should see a Nearby Photos link. Click it. You will now see a wider view of the map with thumbnails of other photos from your Library at the locations they were taken.
5 See nearby photos on iOS
After tapping the ‘i’ with a star next to it on a photo, tap the thumbnail of the photo on the map at the bottom of the screen. A fullscreen map will open. Tap Show Nearby Photos to see other photos in your Library on the map.
6 Name a rollercoaster
Find a photo of a rollercoaster in your library. Tap the ‘i’ with a star next to it on iOS or Mac. Tap the map icon. The results should have a Siri Knowledge section with a Wikipedia entry for the theme-park ride in the photo.
7 Identify a plant
Take a photo of a plant, or open one in Photos. Tap the ‘i’ with a star. Look for the leaf icon on the photo and tap it. The Visual Look Up window should open with Siri Knowledge showing what it thinks the plant is.
8 Get directions
If you want directions to a destination, tap a photo taken at the site, and tap the ‘i’ with a star next to it. Tap or click the map icon, then, under Maps, tap or click Go. Tap your mode or transport, choose a route and tap Go to start.
