Apple started offering paid-for subscriptions to podcasts in 2021 as another way of allowing creators and studios to generate revenue from podcasts. Buying a subscription is much like in-app purchasing. The creator sets the price and the benefits, and you tap a button to sign up. You’re then billed the price set by the creator once a month or once a year. The benefits of a paid-for subscription are dependent on the creator, but could include removing adverts from podcasts and the opportunity to listen to subscriber-only content.
