Substitute text in Safari
Q
Sometimes Safari in Monterey 12.5 won’t perform text substitutions correctly. Is there a trick I can use to enable them to work as expected? byGEORGE DUFFEY
AThere’s only one basic control over text substitutions in Safari, and that’s in the Substitutions sub-menu in its Edit menu. Click in the website box at the top of Safari’s window, then open that sub-menu to check that Text replacement is enabled. If you use the top command to Show
Substitutions, a small floating window gives you direct control over them.
You may find that starting up in Safe mode, with the ⇧ key held during startup, leaving your Mac a couple of minutes, then restarting, clears any glitches. Reinstalling Monterey is likely to prove a waste of time, but one useful trick is to add a new user in System Preferences’ Users & Groups pane, and switch to that user to see if that account has the same problems. If it doesn’t, then something you’ve installed or configured for your account is most likely to be the cause.
