Ordering your Desktop

-

QI like SSDs on my Desktop shown in custom order, but also want them to snap into place. How can I do that in Monterey? byANDYS

AYou have two choices for displaying items on the Desktop: either use Stacks and accept the order it places them in, or turn Stacks off and position them in the order you want.

Click on the Desktop and untick Use Stacks in the View menu. If the Sort By sub-menu is set to Off, you can place them wherever you want. Enabling Snap to Grid places them regularly, but in custom order.

When you enable Use Stacks, they’ll be placed in order by name or another sort option, and setting sort order to None disables the stacks. Currently there’s no way to lock items in place without using Stacks or snapping them to a grid.

?? ?? Arranging items on your Desktop using Stacks forces them to be sorted in order, and prevents custom layout.
With Stacks turned off, you can order the items how you wish, and use Snap to Grid for a regular layout.
