HOW TO Tag your files with Mp3tag

-

1

Add tracks

Open the File menu and choose Open. You can browse to a folder containing your music and click Open to add all the tracks inside, or simply select a single file and click Open. Choose File > Add to add more files/folders in this way.

2

Access search engines

The files will be listed in the main window – any metadata currently embedded into the file(s) will also be displayed. If you’re looking to find a quick online match, go to Tag Sources > Discogs to open a search window.

3

Find album match

If necessary, type the artist and/ or album name into the Query box and click Search. A list of matching releases on Discogs will be shown. Use the information displayed (including format and catalogue number) to find a match.

4

Review and tag

If the tags, album art and track names aren’t a match, click Back to try another search result. Untick any information and artwork you don’t want to import, change the order of tracks using drag and drop, then click Merge.

5

Manually input tags

You can tag files manually. Start by selecting all tracks from the same album and entering shared information (Album, Year, Genre, Album Artist) into the fields in the left-hand pane. Click the ‘Save changes to files’ button.

6

Input track-specific info

The quickest way to input trackspecific tags like Title or Track is via the right-hand pane. Click inside the field of the first file, enter your tag and select Enter to save the tag to the file and move on to the next one.

7

Add album artwork

To add artwork, select all your tracks again, then Ctrl-click the album thumbnail and choose Add. Select your artwork (PNG or JPG), which could be your own design (try postermywall.com) or a scan of the album cover.

8

Make artwork changes

Ctrl-click the image and choose Add to add more artwork or Adjust to resize and tweak the image. After adding another image, Ctrl-click it and use the Type submenu to set its description (such as back cover or artist picture).

9

Perform quick actions

Choose Actions > Quick Actions to bring up a menu offering some quickfire tweaks, from converting case to replacing text, or Ctrl-click the selection to access a Convert submenu offering even more useful options.
