GIVE ME THE MUSIC!

-

I have an 8th-generation iPad running iOS 16.6. When I try to follow the instructions from your Apple Music on iPad tutorial (MF395), I do not get the Download arrow, I get a ‘+’ sign. Also, when I try to download a single file, I only get the ‘…’ icon which does not offer a Download action. BY MICHAEL ORR

Firstly, you need to be subscribed to Apple Music. Next, you need to be in either Listen Now or Browse views at the top left of the app’s sidebar. When you select a playlist or an album in either one of those views, you will see a ‘+’ button in the top-right corner of the selected playlist or album view. Tapping that adds that playlist or album to your Music library. The ‘+’ button should then change to a Download button (with a down arrow inside it). This enables you to download the entire playlist or album, or tap the ‘…’ to the right of an individual track and tap the Download option from the menu that appears.

If you can’t tap the ‘+’ button to add a playlist or album to your library, the options described won’t be available. You should, however, be able to stream the playlist, album or individual tracks contain within it.

There are a few other options you can try to fix the downloads issue: one is to sign out of Apple Music, then sign in again; another is to make sure Settings > Music > Sync Library is switched on; and a third is to update your version of iPadOS. Finally, check your Apple Music subscription is current and that you have enough free space available on your iPad for downloads to take place. If none of this works, book an appointment with an Apple Genius (apple.com/retail/geniusbar).
