How to Set up and use iCloud Keychain
Turn on iCloud Keychain
If you didn’t set up iCloud Keychain when you originally installed macOS Sierra, no problem: go to System Preferences > iCloud and select Keychain. Then enter your Apple ID’s password in the dialog box to begin.
Add a security code
You’ll be asked to set a security code, which allows other devices to access the information in your iCloud Keychain. Entering the security code wrongly too many times will wipe your keychain from Apple’s servers.
Where is your data?
Your site accounts, Wi-Fi networks, and internet accounts will be uploaded to iCloud and, from there, to any other devices you own which use the same iCloud account. Manage your data under Passwords in Safari’s prefs.
Keep Keychain local
If you have opted not to set a security code, data you add to your keychain is stored only on the device you’re using (whether Mac or iOS), but isn’t updated on your other devices since it won’t be stored in iCloud.
Add credit card details
Safari offers to save your credit and debit card numbers when you enter them into online forms. To add others, open Safari’s preferences, click AutoFill, then Edit beside Credit Cards, and then Add.
Set up Keychain on iOS
On your iOS device, go to Settings > iCloud > Keychain and turn it on. Enter your Apple ID password when prompted, then opt to authorize from another device, or tap “Approve with your Security Code.”
Permit the new device
If you opted to authorize from another device, a notification will pop up on it. Click or tap the notification, then select Continue. Enter your Apple ID password to grant the new device access to your iCloud Keychain.
Maintain security code
If you opted to use a security code, confirm the phone number then watch for an SMS containing a six-digit code. Enter this code into the dialog on the iOS device to complete the authorization process.
