The beginning of the end for 32-bit software

-

>>> Yo u may have followed our tutorial in issue 129 about checking which of your iOS apps will require a 64-bit update, or an outright replacement, for iOS 11. If not, you can read it at bit.ly/ios11appcompat.

Thankfully, macOS High Sierra doesn’t pose the same problem for any 32-bit software that you depend upon, but Apple is widely reported to have told developers it’ll be the last version of macOS to provide 32-bit app support “without compromise.” Apps submitted to the Mac App Store from January 2018 will need to be 64‑bit to be accepted by Apple.

To check which of your software isn’t 64-bit, open System Information (in /Applications/Utilities) and, under Software, click Applications. Review the software listed here, then do the same for Preference Panes.
