Toolbox 1.7

Easy access to useful tools

This utility’s menu bar icon reveals a menu of tools for common tasks, including downloading videos from the likes of YouTube by pasting a link; an enhanced Do Not Disturb mode that stops Dock icons bouncing; and hiding icons on your desktop.

This version enhances the video download and screenshot tools, and adds four brand new ones: an audio downloader, a screen resolution switcher, a presentation mode that suppresses intrusive system behaviors, and Airplane Mode to toggle both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on or off in fewer clicks.

Tools are shown as large icons, which you can add to the Favorite & Recent area at the menu’s top, the menu bar, or the Dock. The library can be collapsed to make the app’s menu more compact; still, color to aid navigation would be welcome.

It’s also a pity you can’t assign simple keyboard shortcuts to your favorite tools. Parallels promises the addition of more tools, but you’ll need an active subscription to receive them.

THE BOTTOM LINE. A nice bunch of tools, yet icons are a bit lacking, and there are no keyboard shortcuts to favorites.
