How to Use Find My iPhone to locate AirPods

-

1 Open the app

To track your AirPods on an iOS device, you need to use the Find My iPhone app. Open it and wait while it attempts to look for your devices. If the AirPods are within Bluetooth range (up to 328 ft), it will locate them.

2 Select the buds

If your AirPods are top of the list, their location will be immediately shown on the map. Otherwise, select them from the list of devices at the bottom of the screen. They will then be pinpointed on the map.

3 Tap for actions

With your AirPods selected in the list of devices, you’ll see an option at the foot of the screen labeled Actions. Tap this in order to display couple of useful options to aid you in locating your AirPods.

4 Play a sound

One option is to force the buds to make a noise, by tapping Play Sound. The AirPods will emit a beeping sound which increases in volume the longer it takes to find them, so you can track them down if they’re nearby.

5 Mute an AirPod

If you’ve lost just one AirPod rather than the pair, you can opt to mute the sound coming from the one that’s in your possession. Just tap Mute Left or Mute Right and the noise from the respective bud will be canceled.

6 Locating further away

What if there’s no connection between the AirPods and your iPhone or iPad? In this case, Find My iPhone looks for the AirPods’ last known location. Tapping the car icon gives you directions to the headphones.
