GoPro Hero 6 Black

GoPro’s best, most powerful action camera ever

-

$499.99 From GoPro, shop.gopro.com Features 4K video (60fps), 1080p video (240fps), 12MP still image capture, waterproof up to 33ft

The new GoPro Hero6 Black can capture super-slow-motion video at high res, output a stabilized image in 4K, and transfer everything to your phone at speed.

The biggest update is the arrival of the GP1 processor. This allows the Hero6 Black to offer 4K video capture at a smooth 60fps and 1080p Full HD footage at 240fps.

Thanks to the GP1 processing engine, you can now have image stabilization active while shooting 4K footage. The GoPro can capture 12MP images in single, burst, and time-lapse modes, and has a new built-in High Dynamic Range mode for high-contrast scenes.

The device is as compact as ever, feels durable, and is waterproof down to 33ft, or 196ft with the optional Super Suit housing. Without the housing there’s no casing to get in the way of the microphone, so audio quality is good.

The camera’s improved dynamic range means better image quality in low light. Raw support is also welcome, as is the new Wake on Voice function. You can review media and adjust settings via a two-inch touchscreen on the back, which is surprisingly unfussy to use.

GoPro tackles offloading large file sizes by supporting High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). It also utilizes the 5GHz wireless frequency for improved transfer rates, and QuikStories as a way to transfer and compile your footage into an editable video collage.

The bottom line. With plenty of great upgrades to video, file transfer and more, this is the best action camera available. PhilHall & Matt Swider
