Google-style live TV Free (subscription required)

It’s been a year since YouTube TV launched in a handful of US markets, during which time the $35-per-month cord-cutter favorite has been available only on Chromecast, smartphones, and tablets. 2018 started off with the arrival of native Roku and Apple TV apps.

The tvOS edition is pretty much what you’d expect: Buttons across the top are used to search or navigate between favorites and DVR content (Library, in YouTube TV parlance) and the main Home tab with top picks, shows, movies, news, and more. There’s also a Live tab, which displays what’s on right now and for the next eight hours using a more traditional guide view that will make former cable TV subscribers feel right at home.

Currently available in over 80 markets, YouTube TV serves up four major networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC), with The CW thrown in for good measure in a few and add-ons like Showtime available at extra cost. YouTube’s DVR offers unlimited recording for up to nine months, and a seven-day free trial is available.
